Microsoft Secures U.S. Approval to Ship 60,000 Nvidia GB300 Chips to UAE, Boosting AI Expansion
Microsoft has obtained U.S. government approval to export 60,000 Nvidia GB300 chips to the United Arab Emirates, marking the first such license under the Trump administration. The chips, equivalent to 60,400 A100 GPUs but more advanced, are part of Nvidia's Grace/Blackwell lineup, a critical component in global AI infrastructure development.
The license, approved in September but announced this week, includes stringent technology safeguards. Microsoft plans to use these GPUs to power AI capabilities from OpenAI, Anthropic, and open-source developers, alongside its own services. The company emphasized the chips' potential to accelerate the UAE's emergence as a major AI hub.
Concurrently, Microsoft revealed plans to increase its UAE investments to $15.2 billion, signaling a strategic commitment to the region's tech ecosystem. The MOVE underscores the growing intersection of geopolitics, advanced computing, and corporate AI ambitions.
